Weakened Immune System

The immune system is the body's army, fighting off infections and disease as it engineers our healing process. Its main functions are to kill, clean up and remember. This is a very simplistic view of an intricate, complex and amazing system.

Another part of the immune system is the lymphatic system. This is a system of organs including tonsils, thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, peyers patches and lymph fluid which is the body's cleaning system. It drains excess fluid, eliminates waste, toxins and dead and damaged cells.

Immune diseases seem to be on the increase, auto-immune disease (when our body attacks itself) becoming more prevalent. Why, no one is exactly sure but it seems that our systems are being overwhelmed by the overuse of chemicals, drugs, additives, stress, poor digestion and diet
(see digestion) which is rife in our modern day lifestyles.

A weakened immune system can lead to a wide range of problems which typically include:
  • fatigue
  • listlessness
  • repeated infections
  • inflammation
  • allergic reactions
  • slow wound healing
  • infections that represent some overgrowth eg, thrush, candidiasis
Recommendations to maintaining a healthy immune system
  • Relax and de-stress
  • Have a high intake of fruits and vegetables
  • Sleep as much as possible
  • Take regular moderate exercise
  • Avoid overeating
  • Avoid smoking, alcohol, caffeine and soft drinks
  • A positive mental outlook
  • Certain vitamins and minerals are vital to the function of a healthy immune system. These include - vitamin A, C (with bioflavoids), E, selenium, zinc
  • Alfalfa, Spirulina, Chorella tablets - nourish good bacteria in the colon and cleanse it, which is vital since it is believed that 80% of our immune response is activated from the colon.
If you still have problems check for the following conditions, which impair the immune system:
  • underactive thyroid/hypothyroid (see thyroid)
  • adrenal fatigue
  • food allergies or intolerances
  • mercury fillings
  • high levels of toxins (these can be checked by doing a hair analysis test)
So why does reflexology help?
Reflexology allows the body to de-stress and relax, stimulating the body's own healing systems to work more effective and efficiently to help the body return back to its natural state of balance.
